ABOUT

We offer original British cinema crown quad posters for sale. These posters were produced solely for UK cinema exhibition and are therefore not available at retail outlets. Their limited print run and unique size has made them increasingly collectable. Our aim at Cinema Quad Posters is to find cinema posters that have outstanding artwork with iconic images that are universally recognisable around the world, as well as unusual film art that simply deserves to be seen.

We try to source posters that are in the best possible condition for their age and do not aquire folded or badly damaged modern quad posters. It is our aim to value posters similar to, or lower than, other established quad poster websites. There may well however still be some posters that we consider more valuable than others, but then that's part of the pleasure of collecting - everyone has very individual tastes.

If you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to e-mail us.

NEW WEBSITE

On April 1st 2024, we launched this brand new, simpler responsive website, that will now readjust content depending on the size of the screen being used, making it a more pleasurable browsing experience, particularly for those accessing the site on mobile devices. It's been a long time coming, but we were determined to learn Bootstrap (the coding that allows websites to be responsive) ourselves and re-build the site from scratch.

All the thumbnails have also been re-created at a higher resolution and over the next few months we will be re-photographing many of our posters that were either photographed a long time ago on a much lower resolution camera, or photographed during winter, when the light was poor and detail lost. However, if you do notice any errors on the site, please do let us know so that we can correct them.

WHAT IS A CINEMA QUAD POSTER?

The British cinema quadruple crown poster (quad) has been the standard since the late 1930's. It measures 30 x 40 inches and is displayed in the landscape format. Up until 1985 quad posters were almost always machine folded prior to distribution and printed on heavier matt paper stock. The most prominent printers in the U.K. at the time were Berry & Company, Lonsdale & Bartholomew and Stafford and Company.

Due to their unique 'landscape orientation', artwork for every imported U.S. film had to either be altered or completely recommissioned by British commercial artists. This led to new, alternative and often more exciting artwork than the original U.S. design. As a result many British cinema quad posters have become highly sought after by collectors.

Since the early 1990s quad posters are now printed on both sides (Double Sided - DS Quad) using gloss paper stock. This increases the contrast and colour when displayed inside a cinema light box. Unlike their predecessors, modern posters are unfortunately much easier to damage and almost impossible to restore.

With the advent of photo manipulation software, new cinema releases rarely get alternative UK artwork commissioned, however distributors like Park Circus and the Bfi have been reinvigorating the quad poster market by bringing classic films back into theatres along with some wonderful fresh new designs.

HOW TO ORDER

Customers can place a direct order by clicking the 'Buy Now' PayPal button. If you are not based in the U.K. please send me an email detailing the poster/s you wish to purchase and the postal service you require. I will then send you a PayPal invoice with the additional postal charges for that country. Once you have placed your order an e-mail will be sent to you when it has been dispatched, along with the tracking code.

POSTER CONDITION

Whilst I endeavour to describe any obvious imperfections, I no longer list any posters as MINT. Experience has taught me that such terms can be highly subjective and I am unable to place items under such excessive scrutiny. I do however try and photograph each poster in as much detail as possible so that any imperfections can be examined. Although great care is taken when photographing, storing and packaging each poster, it is possible that very minor imperfections can arise from such handling.

PAYMENT METHODS

I accept credit or debit card payments through PayPal only as it is safe, fast and secure. Please do not send cheques or international money orders.
